The Sioux City Symphony in Iowa has announced Patrick O'Malley as their Composer of the Year for 2018. The symphony will be performing "Loneliness in a Beautiful Place" alongside works by Respighi, Debussy, and Hovhaness.
O'Malley will be recording a short orchestral work with Los Angeles studio musicians while studying conducting with film music composers William Ross and Conrad Pope.
O'Malley will receive an ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer award along with several other talented young composer at a ceremony at Lincoln Center, NY.
O'Malley will compose a new chamber piece for the Music from Copland House ensemble. The fellowship takes place on June 5-11th, with a final concert given on June 11th.
O'Malley is one of 19 composers to win the 2017 ASCAP Young Composer Award for his Loneliness in a Beautiful Place. Links to recordings of the winning pieces can be found on NewMusicBox's announcement.
